Architecture Overview

Scalable, adaptable, and flexible

RSuite CMS is architected to deploy quickly. With the ability to scale along with MarkLogic Server, RSuite provides the foundation to meet the needs of today with an eye on the future.

Display layer: RSuite has a browser user interface and works with common web browsers. The RSuite user interface is built using AJAX and the source code is delivered to our clients to customize or modify to meet their needs. Some clients have also chosen build custom interfaces on top of RSuite using .Net/ASP.

Application layer: A Java-based application, the RSuite application ships with Apache tomcat and runs on Unix, Windows, and Linux.

Workflow: RSuite provides a graphical drag-and-drop setup and configuration of workflows, built on top of JBoss jBPM, an industrial-strength open source workflow system. Creating and applying a workflow can be done in minutes by selecting one of over thirty action handlers provided out of the box. Multi-threaded and parallel workflows are not a problem. Non-technical users can change and add workflow steps and tasks without always having to involve IT staff.

API: An API is provided to make integration of third-party tools and systems easy. This is the same API we used to build our own front end.

XML editing: RSuite integrates with any WebDAV-compliant third-party XML editor such as XMetaL, Arbortext, and oXygen. Direct integrations are also available for some editors, including some browser-based XML editing tools. Leveraging auto forms generation, RSuite can provide the ability to edit XML in a forms-based interface for those users who prefer to not work in an environment that exposes XML tag sets.

Repository: RSuite is powered by MarkLogic Server, with an XQuery API.

Security: User management and authentication is provided through LDAP-based security. Set up multiple roles to access and manage content.
